الفصل 24: Correct Sects

After the weekly lecture on the Qur’an and Hadith, Javed Ahmed Ghamidi was asked which sects are correct from a religious perspective. The summary of Mr. Ghamidi’s conversation in response to this question is as follows.

The sects, schools of thought, or perspectives on religion that exist today have been established by humans based on their understanding. It is not necessary that every aspect of any school of thought is correct, nor is it necessary that every aspect is wrong. From the perspective of knowledge and thought, no human effort can be declared entirely correct. Regarding the understanding of religion that I present to you, I can never claim that it will necessarily be entirely correct. My own history tells me that I have reconsidered many opinions I had established. Previously, I considered a certain opinion to be correct according to my knowledge and reasoning and expressed it with full confidence; today, in light of my knowledge and reasoning, I find that opinion to be incorrect. The matter of my faith and conviction is essentially tied to my understanding.

In this matter, the correct approach is that we should always keep our minds and hearts open and not be prejudiced by our own opinions. Therefore, regarding schools of thought, it can be stated that a particular school of thought is closer to the truth, but it cannot be said that a particular school of thought is the absolute truth. The definitive criterion of truth is exclusively the words of Allah’s Messenger (PBUH). By using this as the standard, you can decide whether to accept or reject something.
